Experiences over Things

In 2018, Expedia and the Center for Generational Kinetics published 'Generations on the Move', a paper on generational travel trends and habits. One key insight from the study, 74% of Americans favor an experience over a product or thing.

“Baby Boomers (born 1946-64 are entering a stage where ‘less is more,’ while younger generations, particularly Millennials (defined as those born from 1977-95), are leading the charge in placing a newfound value on experiences, more than things.”

Shared experiences connect us more to other people than shared consumption. Even today, we are all looking forward to 'meeting again' in some shape or form. The question becomes, how much emphasis will you put on the attendee's experience in your next meeting or event plan?
